The Fourth Annual Conference of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University Westminster, in association with the British Journalism Review.

This years’ conference is about journalistic standards, ethics and practices.

Given the phone hacking scandal at News International and the ongoing Leveson inquiry, we ask: After phone-hacking, what next?

Although prompted by the current crisis in British journalism the conference is not confined to British difficulties or indeed British solutions, but aims to conduct the widest possible international examination of the issues. Equally, it will concentrate not only on the press but on all news media.

In addition to academic papers we have the following panel discussions:
Academic panellists:

Anne Dunn – University of Sydney
Steve Barnett – University of Westminster
Julian Petley – Brunel University
Jean Seaton – University of Westminster
Industry panels include:

Jonathan Collett – Director of Communications at PCC
Martin Moore – Director of the Media Standards Trust
Max Mosely – Former President of the FIA
Hugh Tomlinson QC – Matrix Chambers
Charles Wheeler Award

The conference will conclude in the evening with the annual presentation of the British Journalism Review’s Charles Wheeler Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcast Journalism.

This will be followed by
A conversation with Alan Rusbridger

Interview by Bill Hagerty, Editor, BJR
