Christian Fuchs speaks to Newsweek about Trump’s plans for a new social media platform

It has been widely rumoured that Donald Trump will return to social media in the coming months. Not on Twitter, where he is now banned, but on his own platform. In an interview about this prospect for Newsweek, Prof. Christian Fuchs said the appeal of a Trump-owned site would pull in his base—but perhaps not pierce beyond that. He noted that “it is unlikely a Trump platform would reach beyond his own filter bubble into the wider public,” going on to suggest that the approach of other media would determine the spread of influence from the site. “Part of Trump’s popularity were all these frontpage and primetime stories about his tweets,” Fuchs said.
