Winston Mano Guest speaker at USA’s Regis University

CAMRI’s Winston Mano was an invited guest speaker for Regis University’s Master of Development Practice programme for the media development course. Mano discussed decolonization of media and answered questions from the graduate students. He introduced decoloniality and emphasised the need to consider alternative thinking about development. He talked about the urgent need to unlearn that which has not worked in development. Mano encouraged the students to push back on toxic, racist and stereotypical approaches to development. Organised by the Department of Communication, the talk was a way of bringing together practitioners and academics. The students on the course are looking to do development work in areas such as education, health, gender, agriculture and some are currently doing some development work. The course explores concepts and methods of communication as a critical dimension of all levels of all development projects. The event, attended by both staff and students, was held online on the 13th of March 2023.
