Congratulations to Dr Lookman Sanusi, the newest PhD graduate from the Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI)!

Dr Sanusi has been awarded a PhD with a thesis titled “The Challenges of Digital Switchover in Nigeria within the Global Trend in Digital Broadcasting”.

The VIVA was examined Dr Mercy Ette (Newcastle University, External Examiner) and Professor Maria Michalis (Internal Examiner).

Prof Michalis commented: “Dr Sanusi’s thesis is an important contribution to digital switchover studies. Focusing on Nigeria and based on qualitative methods, the thesis provides a detailed analysis of the challenges and in the end the missed opportunity to use the process to strengthen policy along public interest goals”.

Dr Alessandro D’Arma, Director of Studies, commended Dr Sanusi for his resilience and intellectual dedication, stating: “Lookman’s in-depth knowledge of the Nigerian context and history, and his strong research skills have culminated in this significant personal milestone”.

Reflecting on his achievement, Dr Sanusi shared: “This academic journey has been tremendous; it was laborious yet enjoyable and enriching due to the support I received along the way. It is often said that knowledge acquired and not applied is knowledge lost. I intend to immediately make an impact on the creative industry with the knowledge gained from this study.”

We wish Lookman every success as he embarks on his future academic and professional endeavours in the television industry!
