Steven Barnett publishes British Journalism Review piece on BBC’s coverage of Gaza conflict
Prof. Steven Barnett recently published a piece in the new issue of the the British Journalism Review: “Give us facts, not opinions.”
Co-authored with Ivor Gaber (University of Sussex), the piece is “a takedown of a poorly-constructed research project that featured prominently in the UK press, suggesting that the BBC’s coverage of the Gaza conflict was biased against Israel.”
The authors critique the report and conclude that it was a “deeply flawed study that was manifestly designed to reach a predestined conclusion.” They argue that, in giving such prominence to reports that suit their own political agenda, newspapers are adding to the distrust that already affects mainstream journalism.
