Congratulations to Ofer Yeger, our latest CAMRI PhD Graduate!

Many congratulations to Dr Ofer Yeger on her successful VIVA defence.

Ofer has been awarded a PhD with a thesis titled ‘Home-Being: Creating Dwelling in the Digital Age’, contributing to contemporary discussions about media–life entanglement in our digitally saturated world.

Reflecting on her achievement, Ofer commented: ‘Reaching this moment after years of research and writing is incredibly rewarding. I am deeply grateful to my wonderful supervisors, Tarik Sabry and Claire McAndrew, whose care, wisdom and support have been invaluable throughout this journey. In our ever-evolving life in the digital age, I am certain that the experience and knowledge that I have gained during my doctoral research project will enhance my next endeavours in thinking on the entanglements between the digital and the physical in the places where we live’.

Director of Studies Prof Tarik Sabry (CAMRI) commented: ‘Dr Ofer Yeger’s phenomenological study is a profound inquiry into what it means to dwell in the digital world. It is an original contribution to our field’.

External Examiner Prof Mark Deuze (University of Amsterdam) praised Ofer’s work: ‘This is a thoughtful digital ethnography that show how media, when used as part of people’s practices of making a home, can contribute to people’s sense of dwelling (and feeling at home, online and offline). Overall, the richly detailed research raises a fascinating question: are we, through our intense use of all kinds of digital and social media to document, archive and share our lives online, in turn also creating ourselves (and the way we live) offline?’

Internal Examiner Dr Anastasia Denisova (CAMRI) remarked: ‘Dr Ofer Yeger is a great thinker. Her inquisitive, layered work delves into the digital and physical experiences of homes. This narrative of dwelling is underpinned by the values of care, community building and self-expression. I can’t wait for the world to see it published so other readers can enjoy it, too’.

Ofer’s thesis will soon be available through the University of Westminster’s online repository.

We extend our best wishes to Ofer for continued success in her future endeavours!
