Paul Rekret has been awarded a ‘Curiosity Grant’ by the Arts & Humanities Research Council for £99,720 for his work on ‘Small-Scale Online Radio Stations in the UK.’

A two-year partnership with the School of Critical Studies at the University of Glasgow, the Scottish National Library and the British Library, this project aims to investigate the impact and challenges faced by small-scale radio, to document and share best practices in support of capacity-building amongst these local creative institutions. In doing so, the project team will develop a framework for the study of SSORs as unique media actors.

The AHRC responsive mode: Curiosity Award provides flexible seed funding for ambitious, novel, early-stage research in the arts and humanities to generate new research agendas, foster networking, and create partnerships. Applicants can receive up to £100,000 for projects lasting up to five years to fund activities like idea generation, public engagement, and international collaboration. These awards support researchers at all career stages and encourage collaboration to build skills and potential new research opportunities.

Rekret has also been awarded £10,000 by the British Academy to lead this project into a wider Europe-wide Horizon grant application.
