Prof. Naomi Sakr has contributed a new chapter to the recently published volume, Political Economy, Power, and Cultural Heritage in the Arab World, edited by Hicham Alaoui and Robert Springborg.

In her chapter, Pan-Arab TV Drama: State Controls and National Memory,” Professor Sakr examines how television drama across the Arab region serves as a vehicle for shaping collective memory and political narratives.

Published by Lynne Rienner Publishers, this multidisciplinary collection brings together scholars from across the globe to examine the growing politicisation of cultural heritage in the Arab world. Adopting a political economy approach, the book investigates how regimes, institutions, and international actors manipulate or erase cultural heritage to consolidate power and navigate contemporary political challenges.
