Profiles of Black British Music 2015 @ University of Westminster | England | United Kingdom

Profiles of Black British Music is an annual seminar held by the Black Music Research Unit (BMRU). It provides a platform for sharing information on or relating to black British music over the last 12 months.

The seminar is part of the BMRU’s annual series of events supporting academic research, community events and the profiling of black music in Britain. It is definitely worth attending if you’re looking at funding, networking and opportunities to profile within this sector. Themes will include but are not limited to papers and presentations on:

  • Publishing
  • Copyright
  • Marketing & promotion
  • Festivals
  • Cultural & tourism
  • Heritage
  • Exhibitions
  • Fashion
  • Community workshops
  • Music education

The event pays tribute to Rico Rodriguez and his contribution to popular music in Britain. In support, the PRS for Music Foundation and FORM Music will speak on the work being done by the PRS benevolent fund to support musicians in times of difficulty.

The BMRU is an interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners providing a mix of academic and industry expertise. Its focus is the largely undocumented musical experience of black and minority ethnic communities in the UK.
