Paul Rekret and Toby Bennett delivered a set of public lectures in November at the School of Economics and Management at the Communication University of China in Beijing. The sessions introduced current debates in the UK creative and media industries and outlined recent developments in cultural economy research at different scales.

Rekret presented emerging findings from his AHRC-funded project on small-scale online radio stations. His talk set out a conceptual framework for analysing voluntary, community-based and gift-driven cultural practices. Bennett drew on several recent projects focusing on transnational enterprises and global production networks across the UK and European creative economy. His talk highlighted the significance of locality within the networked transnational character of contemporary cultural industries.
