Following the publication of Infrastructures of Empire: Towards a Critical Geopolitics of Media and Information Studies by Miriyam Aouragh and Paula Chakravartty, a new article by Chakravartty seeks to take their work further to explore the contradictions and concerns highlighted by the earlier work. In the earlier work Aouragh and Chakravartty wondered why it was that the vast majority of English language scholarship on the Arab Uprisings’ “innovative social media use by youth in Egypt and Tunisia had so little to say about the US’ and other Western colonial powers’ legacy of occupation, on-going violence and strategic interests in the region at large.” This question are more are explored in the new writings for Media Theory.
