Michaela O’Brien interviewed by Women in PR Podcast
Michaela O’Brien, Head of the Westminster School of Media and Communication and co-course leader on MA Media, Campaigning and Social Change, was recently interviewed by Ana Adi on the Women in PR Podcast. The discussion revolved around the missing women in PR and campaigning. During the discussion O’Brien points to the issues presented by traditional textbooks being focused on, and written by men. She also advocates for more approaches that look beyond PR as a purely corporate undertaking.
O’Brien draws upon her many years of experience of working in public relations, suggesting that many PR books do not reflect the realities of women working in the industry. She also discusses her research with Friends of the Earth and her work on the Suffragette movements, both of which over turn much of the standard thinking around PR and Campaigning.
