Carl Jones discusses the importance of diversity and inclusion in the advertising industry with the HAT Collective

Diversity and advertising are a hot topic. Forcing question such as Why does the culture industry use stereotypes to represent race and gender? How does diversity and Inclusion manifest in the advertising industry and it’s output? Why are females only 11% of Creative Directors?

CAMRI researcher and Snr. Lecturer Carl Jones discussed the Importance of diversity and inclusion in the advertising industry with the HAT COLLECTIVE, the new collaborative learning community by students, for students …powered by the History of Advertising Trust, the world’s largest collection of UK advertising (HAT).

Topics raised by the students during the conversation included Ageism, #Brownwashing vs #whitewashing, along with solutions  such as black owned UK agency Quiet Storm’s creation of a campaign titled Create Not Hate.

The online presentation was held November 23rd via Zoom and joined by students across the UK studying Advertising and Public Relations. The event was recorded and will be part of a collection held on YouTube to be accessible globally.
