Jean Seaton joins Mile End Institute to mark 100 years since the Zinoviev Letter
On Tuesday, October 29, Prof. Jean Seaton joined a panel of speakers with the Mile End Institute to mark the centenary of “the most famous dirty trick in British political history,” the ‘Zinoviev Letter.’
It was a fascinating, packed event on the 100th anniversary to the day of Labour losing its first election, which the Zinoviev letter may or may not have contributed to. According to the event organisers, “Since it was first written a century ago, the Letter has been the subject of major Whitehall investigations in the 1960s and 1990s, and continues to crop up in the media, including during the Brexit referendum campaign and the 2017 general election.”
Prof. Seaton was joined by Dr Gill Bennett, Dr Robert Saunders, and Prof. Ciaran Martin. Martin, Professor of Practice in the Management of Public Organisations at the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford, was the founding Chief Executive of the National Cyber Security Centre and served as the Principal Private Secretary to the Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service.
