Steven Barnett hosts annual Leveson lecture on press accountability

Prof. Steven Barnett recently hosted the University of Westminster’s annual Leveson Lecture, bringing together journalists, campaigners and students to discuss press regulation and the legacy of the Leveson Inquiry.
Held at Little Titchfield, the lecture welcomed Kerry Katona, Lisa Moorish, Jacqui Hames and producer Patrick Spence, with Sir Brian Leveson in attendance. The event used ITV’s recent drama The Hack, which charts the News International phone-hacking scandal and the work of journalist Nick Davies, as a starting point for examining the legacy of the Leveson Inquiry and the continued relevance of its findings.
Prof. Barnett emphasised the importance of hearing directly from those affected by press misconduct and noted the continued relevance of stronger regulatory measures. The audience, including Westminster students, engaged directly with the speakers, seeking advice on ethical journalism and the responsibilities of future media professionals.
