Investigating the Arms Trade: a practical seminar on how to hold the arms industry to account @ University of Westminster (Room C1.15) | England | United Kingdom

Join us for an illuminating seminar designed to delve deep into the murky world of arms exports to countries embroiled in conflict, and offering practical guidance for journalists, students and activists. The seminar is hosted by the University of Westminster in collaboration with Action on Armed Violence and the Institute for Journalism and Social Change. It will be introduced by Andrew Feinstein (former ANC MP under Nelson Mandela and renowned critic of the global arms trade) reflecting on the UK’s complicity in fueling what the International Court of Justice has ruled is a potential genocide in Gaza. It also includes a special session devoted to the particular impact of the arms trade on women and gender-based violence.

Participants from the fields of journalism, academia, human rights law and civil society will provide insights into the intricacies of investigating the arms trade and understanding the complexities of the military-industrial complex. Moreover, our experts will shed light on strategies for addressing human rights abuses exposed by these investigations, providing invaluable perspectives on advocacy, accountability, and the pursuit of transparency in the global arms trade.

Confirmed speakers include:

Dr Iain Overton (Award winnning current affairs producer, author and Director of Action on Armed Violence)

Professor Ismene Gizelis (Department of Government, University of Essex)

Katie Fallon (Advocacy Manager, Campaign against the Arms Trade)
