Jean Seaton discusses the BBC on Prospect’s Media Confidential Podcast and the i Paper
Prof. Jean Seaton was recently featured in two media outlets discussing the past, present and future of the BBC.
On February 20, Prof. Seaton was interviewed for the Media Confidential podcast, produced by Prospect Magazine, on the topic of “bullet-proofing” the BBC. With hosts Alan Rusbridger and Lionel Barber, she addressed the question: “If someone wanted to take over British institutions like Trump’s government has done in the USA, what would their first steps be—and how could we guard against them?”

Prof. Seaton also discussed “Margaret Thatcher VS The BBC” with host Robbie Hawken on i Paper‘s YouTube channel.
“For over a century the BBC has been the nation’s broadcaster, but at times it can feel like it has never been at the center of so much public scrutiny. The BBC & specifically it’s news coverage has often found itself on a collision course with politics & it has clashed heads with Prime Ministers throughout its history. But it perhaps faced it’s biggest ideological test whilst Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister, a struggle from which we can draw some fascinating parallels to the current situation. The i Paper’s Robbie Hawken speaks with Professor Jean Seaton about Mrs Thatcher’s complex relationship with the BBC & what the future might hold for the corporation.”
