Doug Specht contributes to Vogue Business climate finance glossary
In partnership with The Conversation, Vogue has recently published The Vogue Business climate finance glossary, “an essential guide to climate finance, one of the most complex but critical tools in the fight against the climate crisis.”
It serves as a beginner-friendly yet comprehensive guide to key terms in climate finance, a crucial tool in addressing the climate crisis, particularly within fashion supply chains. Climate finance encompasses a wide range of financial mechanisms, from large-scale government interventions to micro-grants, all aimed at funding decarbonization and supporting communities affected by climate change. It will be a central topic at the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in November.
The Vogue authors tapped a number of academics across the UK to provide definitions of these key terms, including “green bonds,” “financed emissions,” “carbon offsetting,” and the “emissions trading scheme.”
CAMRI’s Doug Specht provided the definition for “nationally determined contributions” (NDCs) — individual climate action plans created by each country under the Paris Climate Agreement, outlining their emissions reduction targets and adaptation strategies. While they guide policies and investment, current NDCs collectively fall short of global climate goals.
