Winston Mano Speaks at Symposium on ‘Youths and Digital Platforms’

CAMRI’s Winston Mano was in the keynote panel at the Youth and Digital Platforms symposium held on the 29^th January at Utrecht University in Netherlands. The symposium focused on the use of digital platforms in the Global South, particularly their role in activism, community and relationship building. The keynote was given by Prof. Nyasha Mboti, followed by a panel with Dr. Gift Mwonzora, Prof. Winston Mano, and Bei Wang (PhD Fellow). Prof. Mboti shared about the ‘evil curricula’ and the challenge to answer the question “How do people stay in situations where they do not want to be?”. Mano spoke about African Youths and Public Engagement in the Age of Platforms. Subsequent panels included a Youth Advisory Committee, a group of 10 young people around the world who are brought together by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Youth Council (NJR) to give young people a voice in its policy processes. There was a keynote by Dr. Qian Huang as well as presentations by  Prof. Isabella Rega, Dr. Çigdem Bozdag, Dr. Annamária Neag, Dr. Irem Inceoglu, Sanne Sprenger, Remy Nyamukabakaba, and Dr. Koen Leurs on rethinking young people’s digital practices from the margins. The concluding session was moderated by Prof. dr. Bruce Mutsvairo using the opportunity to announce the project of creating a special issue, based on the outcomes of this symposium.
