Congratulations to Dr Nanette Willberg, the newest PhD graduate from the Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI)!

Dr Willberg has been awarded a PhD with a thesis titled “Designing Social Micro-Learning Interventions for Blended Learning Scenarios in Higher Education: Mixed Methods Case Study at Macromedia University of Applied Sciences”.

Dr Willberg’s innovative research provides significant insights into the integration of social micro-learning to enhance blended learning environments within higher education. Her case study conducted at Macromedia University in Germany used a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and comparative analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of these educational interventions. Her findings highlight the profound impact of micro-learning on student engagement and learning outcomes, underscoring the importance of both didactic and digital transformation in academic settings.

The VIVA was examined by Professor Peter Hartley and Professor Norbert Morawetz. Her Director of Studies, Professor Dr Gunter Saunders, and external supervisor, Professor Dr Tamara Ranner, provided invaluable guidance throughout her research journey.

Following her successful defence, Dr Willberg remarked: ‘This journey has been both challenging and immensely rewarding. It was made possible by the relentless support of my family, friends, and mentors. I am excited about the potential applications of my research in transforming higher education through technology and learner-centred strategies’.

Gunter Saunders, Nanette’s supervisor, commended ‘her remarkable thoroughness to detail and capability in interpreting the data that she collected. Nanette’s research has made a unique contribution to the topic of Blended Learning’.

We celebrate Dr Willberg’s accomplishments and look forward to the continued impact of her work in the field of educational technology and blended learning. Congratulations, Dr Willberg, on your well-deserved success!
