Ed Bracho-Polanco joins panel on freedom of expression, media regulation, and AI

 

On Wednesday 09 October, Dr. Ed Bracho-Polanco participated as a guest speaker in the online debate, Better to offend a few than to censor many? Freedom of expression, media regulation, and AI. The event was organised as a contribution to the International Ministerial on Religious Freedom, by the Media Diversity Insitute. It was hosted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development on the theme of “Freedom of Religion or Belief and Artificial Intelligence.”

Bracho-Polanco was joined by Eric Heinze, Professor of Law at Queen Mary, University of London and Dr Damian Tambini, Distinguished Policy Fellow, Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The panel was moderated by Milica Pesic, Media Diversity Institute Executive Director. The panel tackled questions on the actions of big online tech companies to tackle hate speech. Are they doing too much or too little? Are they doing it competently? Can they create the perfect algorithm?
