BBC Radio London began its first broadcast on 6th October, 1970, 50 years later Matthew Linfoot joined Vanessa Feltz to celebrate the long running London service. During the interview, which can be heard on BBC Sounds, Linfoot – a former presenter and producer on the station (1993-2003) – discussed the history of the station, and how local radio came to be such an important part of the radio landscape. Feltz and Linfoot also talked about the difficulties of producing local radio that covers such a large area, a problem BBC Radio London has faced since its inception. Linfoot pointed to the increased number of phone in programmes, pioneered by the station, as a key moment in creating a truly local feel for Londons listeners. Linfoot also gave a history of the station, exploring the legacy of Radio London through its various incarnations.
