Andrea Medrado to speak at Palestine Digital Activism Forum (PDAF)

Andrea Medrado will speak at the upcoming Palestine Digital Activism Forum (PDAF) on the 17th May, 5pm UK time.

Part of a three day event, Medrado will be speaking on how content management on social media platforms can impact solidarity in the digital age. She will draw from her research on how YouTube mediates the linkages between two Brazilian social movements – The Homeless Workers Movements (MTST in Portuguese) and the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples (APIB) – and one political party, the PSOL Party. She analyses YouTube recommendation systems, the role played by algorithms and how the platform’s business interests affect the reach of videos produced by these social movements.
