Maria Michalis interviewed about PSB for RTV Slovenia
Maria Michalis was interviewed for a special report on the funding of public service broadcasting, for the evening news bulletin of RTV Slovenia (2ndSeptember 2022). She talked about the latest developments in the UK, and the move away from the licence fee to other forms of funding like state budget and taxation in Norway, the Netherlands and Finland. She emphasised that, despite changes in the funding mechanism, no country has adopted a subscription (voluntary contributions) model – an option being considered in Slovenia – as this would automatically mean the end of “public service.” Public services, she noted, are by definition paid by all and are available to all free at the point of access.
